How to get rid of fish oil

For many, childhood memories are associated with not the most delicious “delicacy” that parents forced to drink - fish oil. Parents, who care about the health of their children, voluntarily forced them to drink this thick liquid. The idea was good - to strengthen the immune system and create conditions for the young body to develop correctly. In this, our mothers and grandmothers were right. Also, the use of a natural product helps to normalize metabolic processes, reduce the layer of subcutaneous fatty tissue, remove cholesterol from the blood, and remove harmful substances. With all these advantages, the liquid is rather poorly washed from clothes. Today we will talk about how to remove fish oil, and we will touch on the topic of other “fishy” stains.

Getting rid of traces of fish oil

This liquid, like any greasy substance, is perfectly removed from the fabric if washed wisely. We recommend pre-soaking the soiled product. Add a suitable washing powder to a basin of water to make cleaning more effective - the product with which you wash dishes. It is specially designed to combat such pollution and will not damage the fabric. Another recipe requires the use of pure alcohol: soak the contaminated area, wait 10 minutes, then rinse well. For rinsing, use water washing powder on which it is better not to save. To remove the smell, we recommend adding ammonia (1 tsp) to ethyl alcohol.

Another effective remedy is a weak solution of food vinegar, which should be applied to the stain and washed through the garment. The following mixture helps well from chronic pollution: ammonia, salt and water in a ratio of 1: 1: 3. After treating the problem area, ventilate the product and wash as usual. If the clothing does not suffer from boiling water, it can be boiled by adding 3% hydrogen peroxide. The following method will also help from such pollution on a light fabric: pour crushed chalk or burnt magnesia onto the contaminated area. It is better if the cleaning agent is on both sides of the material. We put sheets of paper on top and bottom, put a load on top. After 10-12 hours, we remove the load and clean off the powder. On a dark thing, pour the powder only from the wrong side.

We wash the fish

The oily residue left by fish, canned food and sauces can be removed by dissolving laundry detergent in water and rinsing the stain. After that, do not forget to rinse the soiled area in warm water. Heated glycerin is great for old stains. After such treatment, it is necessary to wash off the cleaning composition from the matter. We clean a thin silk fabric by mixing glycerin with water in equal proportions and adding ammonia in the amount of a few drops. It is worth checking in advance whether the matter is subject to molting.

To remove a fish stain from a fabric, if it is natural or rayon, it will turn out if you mix glycerin (1 tbsp), ammonia (0.5 tsp) and vodka (1 tbsp). In addition to oily traces, fish and fish oil are known for a not too pleasant specific smell, which is easily absorbed into the material of tablecloths, towels and clothes. It is not easy to overcome, especially when washing is carried out after a few days. To save textiles, we recommend using vinegar. We fill a small basin with warm water (5 l), add 2 large spoons of vinegar, soak the product, then wash it in the usual way.

Bonus: Other Ways to Remove Grease Stains

There are several ways to remove grease from clothes. different ways. For example, pollution can be poured corn starch, talcum powder or baking soda, put a clean rag on the front and back sides or paper napkin and iron the fabric from the inside out. As the paper or fabric becomes impregnated, it should be replaced with a new one. Vegetable oil is washed off if kerosene is applied to the soiled area. We arm ourselves with a cloth, moisten it in a cleaning agent, gently rub the oil trail and send the product to the wash in a soapy solution. We clean silk and wool by pouring talc on the contamination, putting a blotting paper on top and ironing.

A more cardinal remedy is treatment with a piece of cotton wool soaked in refined gasoline. We apply gasoline to the fabric, pour talc on top and leave the wardrobe item for an hour. If necessary, replace talc with chalk or tooth powder. From old greasy traces helps the following folk recipe: mix ammonia, salt and water in proportions 1:1:3. We air the product and send it to the laundry. If the fat just got on the clothes, the bread crumb will save: we pinch off the pieces and apply it to the soiled matter. Another recipe for quick help: pour salt on top and carefully lose it. When the salt layer is saturated with fat, brush it off and apply a new one.

Since it is quite simple to remove the fishy smell from kitchen items, dishes, and skin of the hands, nothing will save clothes except for washing.

To be sure, follow the following algorithm:

  • Soak clothes made of resistant fabrics for 30-40 minutes in a solution consisting of 150 ml of 9% acetic acid in 5 liters of hot water, rinse;
  • Wash by hand with laundry soap. Dark color it is better - it has more alkali. You can hold a little in a soapy solution;
  • Then put things in the washing machine. Set the temperature program to 40 degrees. We use washing powder. Rinse with conditioner. If the stains are fresh, then this method should help immediately.

Fish is one of those foods that are useful to eat, if not every day, then at least several times a week.

However, in addition to many useful properties, this seafood also has a specific smell, which many consider unpleasant.

When cooking fish, this smell spreads everywhere: it remains on hands, towels, clothes, dishes, and penetrates into all corners of the apartment, even if the kitchen hood is running at full power.

Why does fish smell so bad?

The fishy smell, which is familiar to every person, does not appear immediately. When the fish is just caught from the water, it has practically no smell - you can only feel the aroma of the reservoir in which it lived. A characteristic smell appears only when decomposition processes begin in it, and the more actively these processes proceed, the stronger the fish smells. However, the presence of "darling" does not mean that the fish is unfit for human consumption. This is due to the structural features of the body of marine life, from which there are three main reasons for the appearance of smell:

1. Proteins that are part of fish meat are different from those types of proteins that are found in the meat of land animals. They decompose much faster, which is why decomposition products such as ammonia and sulfur compounds, which have a strong unpleasant odor, form within a few hours after removing the fish from the water. In addition, even the cold is not a hindrance for the bacteria that are in fish and cause the decomposition of proteins, since cold sea water is their usual habitat. Therefore, to prevent the decomposition process, fish meat is stored at a lower temperature than the meat of terrestrial animals.

2. Many species of fish are predators and feed on their counterparts, much smaller in size. Concerning digestive system fish produce a large number of enzymes that help digest other fish. If, after catching, some of the enzymes are on the body of the fish, then over time they begin to digest it from the outside, which also causes an unpleasant smell of decomposition. For this reason, it is recommended that the fish be gutted as soon as possible after being caught.

3. Fatty acids, which appear during the oxidation of unsaturated fats, have an unpleasant odor. There are much more such fats in fish meat than in the meat of terrestrial animals and they are oxidized in air much faster than saturated fats.

How to get rid of the smell of fish in the apartment

If the hostess fries fish, then all the inhabitants of the apartment know about it, and often the neighbors due to the characteristic smell. This unpleasant aroma penetrates into all corners of the room and impregnates objects in the house. It will not be possible to remove it immediately, so it is better not to guess how to get rid of the smell of fish, but to prevent its appearance even before the preparation of fish dishes. This can be done by using proven folk methods:

During cooking, place a container of water next to the stove to which you need to add lemon juice, cinnamon, bay leaf and cloves. Vinegar dissolved in water will also absorb the smell well.

Well absorbs the smell of fish melted on the stove in a special container, sugar mixed with a small amount of vanillin.

A few drops of lemon juice added to the oil will help get rid of the smell of fried fish. Fish in such oil will not only smell less, but will also cook faster.

If the fish is grilled, place 3-4 bay leaves on the grill.

After frying the fish, put the pan under cold running water, and put a few tea leaves on the stove for a while

If after cooking fish dishes there is still an unpleasant smell, it can be eliminated with the help of other, more persistent aromas:

. Citrus fruit. Orange, lemon, lime and grapefruit have the ability to absorb foreign unpleasant odors and fill the apartment with the aroma of freshness.

. Coffee. Quickly neutralize fish flavor after cooking a few coffee beans fried in a hot pan.

. Vinegar. Ordinary table vinegar is powerful tool against persistent odor. Stir a few tablespoons of vinegar in a small pot of water and bring it to a boil.

As a rule, after cooking the fish, the characteristic smell remains not only in the air, but also penetrates the fabrics in the apartment, especially tablecloths and curtains. Regular ventilation will not get rid of the smell immediately. Therefore, after finishing the preparation of fish, it is better to wash the curtains and the tablecloth immediately. If this is not possible, you can soak things in water diluted with vinegar, at the rate of two tablespoons of table vinegar per five liters of warm water.

How to get rid of the smell of fish on your hands

Many housewives do not like to cook fish for the reason that after it an unpleasant smell remains on their hands, which cannot be removed immediately, even if you wash your hands well with soap and water. But where detergents fail, folk methods will come to the rescue, which will help get rid of the smell of fish with the help of improvised means available in any kitchen.

1. Lemon. After washing your hands thoroughly with soap, you need to rub them with a piece of lemon or lime, soaking lemon juice not only on the inside of the palm, but also between the fingers.

2. Vinegar. To get rid of an unpleasant odor, rinse your hands with a solution of vinegar (one tablespoon per two liters of water). If, after this procedure, the hands still smell like fish, you can hold them in the same solution for several minutes.

3.Essential oil. Well absorbs the smell of fish water with the addition of a few drops of essential oil of lemon or orange. At the same time, only cold water should be used for rinsing, since essential oil will not give a noticeable effect in warm water.

4. Beer. Hands that smell like fish must first be washed with soap and water, and then rubbed with beer (both light and dark will do). Beer neutralizes unpleasant odors, leaving behind only a light aroma of bread. In addition, this drink softens the skin of the hands and at the same time does not dry it, unlike detergents.

If the clothes are saturated with the unpleasant smell of fish, the first thing that comes to mind is to wash them in the usual way. However, this does not always give a guaranteed result, because this smell is sometimes so pungent that even after washing by hand or in a washing machine, you can still smell it. In order to get rid of the smell of fish, add a little lemon juice to the laundry detergent, which perfectly neutralizes unpleasant odors. Also, when washing in an automatic washing machine, you can add a little conditioner with a pleasant aroma.

Soaking will help to achieve a good result when washing. You can neutralize the fishy smell on clothes by pre-soaking them in a soapy solution with a high alkali content. To obtain such a solution, take ordinary laundry soap and grate it. Stir the resulting mass in hot water and soak clothes smelling of fish in it. At the same time, do not forget that the darker the laundry soap, the higher its effectiveness. Also, instead of soap, you can add table vinegar, but not more than two tablespoons for one soak.

How to get rid of the smell of fish on clothes if neither washing nor soaking helps? The most effective method in this case will be boiling in a solution of water and laundry soap. However, this procedure may damage or damage the tissue. If you can’t boil clothes smelling of fish, it’s better to take them to a dry cleaner.

Soak

The first thing that comes to mind when you need to get rid of the fishy smell is soaking. A fragrant thing can be soaked in a thick solution made from laundry soap. It is better to take soap with a high content of alkali ( Brown). It dissolves well in hot water. To speed up the dissolution of soap, you can grate it on a coarse grater. After adding the pieces to the water, everything must be thoroughly mixed.

Instead of soap, you can use dishwashing liquid. It is best to use products with a lemon scent. The liquid is applied for a while to the smelling place. After that, the item is sent to the laundry. Due to the tendency of such solutions to form a lot of foam, washing is done by hand, as the washing machine may break.

Soaking in vinegar will also get rid of bad odors. Foul-smelling clothes should be put in warm water, to which 2 tbsp. l. vinegar, for 40 minutes. Thus, we remove not only the fishy smell, but also some types of pollution.

If the thing is white, then it is soaked in bleach. You need to use a product that does not contain chlorine. This component may damage the fabric. Leave clothes in bleach for 40 minutes.

Washing

After the smelling thing has been soaked, it is sent to the laundry. In most cases, soaking followed by washing will help remove the unpleasant odor. For light soiling, you can use conventional cleaning products. Washing can be done either by hand or in the washing machine.

If you want to remove more persistent dirt, then you need to additionally apply lemon juice. The fact is that citric acid, when added to the powder, neutralizes the fishy smell. Also, bad-smelling things are washed well when using air conditioners that have a pleasant smell.

You can remove the strong smell of fish by using baking soda during washing. V washing machine instead of powder, you need to add one glass of soda. It is necessary to wash at the maximum temperature.

If washing does not help and the smell on the clothes is preserved, you should use other methods to eliminate it.

Boiling

Another method of getting rid of the fishy smell is boiling. This method is considered "heavy artillery", as it does not have a beneficial effect on the fabric.

Unpleasant odors from clothes are removed by boiling in a solution prepared from laundry soap and water. Boiling is done as follows:

  • the prepared solution is poured into a basin or pan;
  • then clothes are placed in the selected container with the solution, from which an unpleasant odor emanates;
  • after that, the solution is brought to a boil;

On a small fire, things boil for 40 minutes. Periodically, water must be added to the container.

If the clothes smell like fish, then this unpleasant smell can be removed in various ways. Whichever method is chosen, the following guidelines must be followed:

  • if clothes because of the profession often stink of fish, then you need to remove the smell and stains from several things at once. This saves both money and time with the cleaning agent;
  • if it is not possible to immediately wash clothes stained with fish, then they wrap it in newspapers. They absorb bad odors well. At the same time, after being in the newspaper, things are usually much easier to wash off. This is due to the fact that newspapers will absorb most of the fishy smell;
  • fish flavor is well removed with vinegar. It is enough to add a few tablespoons of vinegar to the soapy solution. Therefore, it can be added in a small amount both to soaking solutions and used in washing. Especially carefully here you need to rinse clothes. Rinsing is carried out in a large volume of water. Otherwise, stains or chemical stains may appear on things;

After the clothes have been washed, it is recommended to dry them in a ventilated area. It is best to hang it outdoors. The stronger the smell, the longer the clothes should be in the air (for example, a day). Cold air or frost has a positive effect.

Remember that the key to effective elimination of fish odor is the quick processing of contaminated items.

Chemical cleaning

If, after all the above cleaning methods, the smell of fish remains on the cleaned clothes, then the last hope remains - chemical washing.

Dry cleaning is used when the fabric of the clothes is very delicate. In this case, the use of vinegar, soda or boiling will make it unusable. At the same time, dry cleaning is considered a radical method of dealing with unpleasant odors.

The main disadvantage of this method is its high cost. However, dry cleaners have at their disposal an extensive arsenal of a wide variety of cleaning products to combat any type of dirt and unpleasant odors. Therefore, dry cleaning will give a 100% clean result.

Knowing how to remove the persistent smell of fish from clothes, you can save your favorite thing and return it to a pleasant aroma. After all, you should not give up your favorite treat or take an effective medicinal product(fish oil) because of the danger of staining clothes. At right approach The problem of fishy smell is solved quite simply.

An unpleasant fishy smell exudes things that have not even been in close contact with fish. The easiest way to remove the fishy smell is from the first group of fabrics. Such textiles are washed, wrung out, bleached, without worrying that things will lose their color and shape. Soaking as one of the options for dealing with an unpleasant odor

Many housewives and part-time “professionals” strongly recommend soaking dirty clothes first, and then starting washing. Otherwise, it will not be possible to achieve the desired result. You can soak things in various solutions, among which the most gentle is the one made using soap. It should be as thick as possible, so you should not spare the cleaning material. To prepare it, add laundry soap grated on a coarse grater to hot or boiled water (it should be dark in color). After that, place dirty clothes there.

Eliminate odor from fabrics that are less exposed chemicals much easier. Prepare a solution consisting of boiled water and 3-5 tablespoons of vinegar. Where do you send your things? Soak clothes for 40 minutes, and then wash in the usual way.

If you left a fish stain on light-colored clothes, use ordinary bleach. It will deal with the bad smell and also remove the stain. If this is not enough, you need to add laundry soap grated on a coarse grater (preferably dark in color) to the water. Put your clothes in there. Send the vessel with the solution to the fire. 30 minutes after boiling, wash the soiled wardrobe item in the washing machine.

Secrets to combat unpleasant fishy odor

The sooner the clothing is treated after contact with the fish, the better the result will be. But what if the opportunity to get rid of the stain is planned in a few days?

  • Wrap dirty clothes in newspaper or other paper. Leave it like this until washing. This will partially remove the smell from the fabric, and also prevent it from spreading;
  • To save money, wash all things "damaged" by fish touches together;
  • During rinsing, it is worth adding a few tablespoons of vinegar to the water container (2-3 is enough), it will allow you to kill the smell or completely remove it. After, without fail, rinse things several times to avoid stains or streaks;
  • Dry clothes in a cold area for at least a day: on the street or on the balcony. Note that the colder the air, the sooner the unpleasant odor disappears.

If the fishy smell remains, stop independent experiments and seek help from professionals.

Grandma's methods

Sometimes it is necessary to seek help in the past, where there are inexpensive and operating methods eliminate unpleasant odors.

  • Pour 3-4 liters of warm water into a container and add two tablespoons of vinegar. Put things in there for 2 hours. After, rinse and wash;
  • In a container with two liters of water, add 2 tablespoons of vinegar. After, wash things with laundry soap. Rinse several times and “freeze” on the balcony. Never let clothes dry in the sun;
  • Add salt to the cold water where you place your things. Let them stay in solution for as long as possible. After - normal washing;

There are more modern methods, namely:

  • When machine washing, use a powder that has a lemon scent. At hand wash, add lemon dishwashing detergent and a few drops of vinegar to a container of water. You can forget about the unpleasant odor after the procedures;
  • One of the most effective and expensive ways is to use dry cleaning services. They know exactly how to eliminate an unpleasant smell. At the same time, the safety of the quality and color of clothes is guaranteed. If the thing is good, the waste is worth it.

Do not give up such a useful product as fish, if once you have had trouble. As you have seen, it is quite possible to deal with unpleasantly smelling stains.

A few important nuances

For effective fight with smells, remember the following important rules:

  1. If, due to your profession, you often encounter fish (cutting, cooking, etc.), try to process all things together. Significantly save time, water and cleaning products.
  2. Do not add dish detergent to the washing machine. It foams too much. In such a case, it will not work. It also poses a danger to the performance of the washing machine.
  3. Never dry washed items in the sun. Ultra-violet rays aggravate the situation, contributing to the spread of an unpleasant odor.

If the fabric of the soiled item is too delicate and the use of radical methods is impractical, or all of the above methods do not help, do not be discouraged. Dry cleaning will always come to the rescue. It is better to pay once and return clean clothes in a few days than to try to remove the stain and unpleasant smell on your own for a month, spending a lot of detergents, nerves and energy.

Do not forget that the unpleasant smell of fish can be combated. Its benefits are worth it.

The main thing is to keep it packaged separately from already cooked food. If the fish is simply chilled, it is stored on the lower shelves of the refrigerator, outside the freezer for a maximum of 2 days.

If we talk about storing an already frozen product, a fillet or a whole carcass that is bought in a store, it is best to store it in the freezer, on the bottom shelf.
