There are some basic types of yarn:

Ideally, such yarn is used to knit light spring and summer sweaters for dogs of small breeds.

  4. Angora wool. This yarn is obtained from the wool of Angora rabbits. It is practically not used in its pure form, since the pet will not be comfortable wearing such clothes. Most often it is combined with merino wool or acrylic fiber.
  5. Merino wool. This is expensive yarn. In order to somehow reduce the cost, some manufacturers can add various fibers to it. This yarn is ideal for knitting clothes for hairless dogs.

Master class on knitting a sweater for a dog

If you know how to knit, then it won’t be difficult to make an original thing for your pet with your own hands. It is more difficult for those who do not have knitting skills. For this you are invited detailed master class. Before that, you need to study the preparatory steps and photos of possible types of clothing.

Taking measurements

This is a responsible step on which the final result will depend.

To take measurements, prepare the following tools:

  • paper;
  • handle;
  • measuring tape.

The number of measurements will depend on what kind of clothing you want to sew or knit.

  1. Before sewing or knitting anything, we first take measurements from the chest. To do this, command the dog to “Sit.”
  2. We take the remaining measurements while the dog is standing. In this case, the pet should not hunch its back and tuck its paws.
  3. For everything to go well, it is advisable to put the dog in a stance like at a show: the back is straight, the head is raised.

When determining the size of clothing, be prepared that you will need to make changes to the ready-made patterns that you are going to use to sew or knit a sweater for your dog.

It would be ideal if you draw up an exact clothing scheme in accordance with the characteristics of your pet’s breed.

Basic measurements to take:

  1. DI. Length of the product. Typically measured from the collar to where you want the sweater to end.
  2. OSH. Neck volume. To make the measurement procedure easier, simply remove the collar from your pet.
  3. OG. Breast volume. You need to start measuring immediately behind the front paws.
  4. DR. It is better to adjust the sleeve length after the main item is knitted.

Required Tools

First of all, you should choose high-quality yarn that will not cause discomfort to your pet.

In addition, you will need the following tools:

  • measuring tape (constantly monitor the size of the product);
  • knitting needles;
  • hook;
  • compiled knitting pattern.

Stages

First of all, be sure to knit a control sample. It will be possible to judge the density of the product and, if necessary, change the pattern or threads.

  1. We calculate the number of loops that need to be cast on. To do this you need to know OG. There are approximately 88 stitches in the sweater.
  2. We definitely start knitting a sweater from the collar. The loops are calculated as follows: from 88 pieces, you need to subtract 20 if the dog is a small breed and 30 if the pet is medium or large in size.
  3. We cast on the required number of loops and knit with an elastic band measuring 1*1 cm for 4 cm. Or we knit 1 cm more if the dog is larger.
  4. Divide the total number of loops into 5 equal parts. We knit the first two with an elastic band, the middle with stockinette stitch, and the remaining two parts again with an elastic band.
  5. We knit in the same way, only with each row we need to add the number of loops that will go to the dog’s sternum. We knit in the same way.
  6. After about 7 cm you need to make holes for the pet’s paws.
  7. We knit a sweater for the dog until the end of the tummy. Towards the end of the sweater, it is necessary to make a narrowing so that the product does not stretch during wear.
  8. As soon as you reach the end of the tummy, you need to transfer all the loops to separate knitting needles and knit the back stitch in stockinette stitch.
  9. Be sure to tie all edges of the product with an elastic band.
  10. After the entire pet sweater is knitted, we sew the parts together along the edge loops.

To make the product look interesting, you can use melange yarn, and use contrasting threads to highlight the collar and bottom of the product. The finished products can be viewed in more detail in the photo.

Alternative to knitting

Not every needlewoman knows how to knit. Some housewives can delight their pets with hand-sewn items. For this you can purchase new fabric, or you can sew clothes from an old wardrobe. Let's look at how to make an original thing for a dog in a few minutes.

Jacket made from socks

Nowadays, outlandish things that can be sewn from an old sock have become fashionable. Yes, exactly one of them. For work, prepare the following tools and materials:

  • a lot of old socks;
  • scissors;
  • ruler;
  • crochet hook of the largest size;
  • needle and thread in the color of the socks.

If your pet weighs about 10 kg, then approximately 35 socks will be needed to get the job done.

The work is carried out in the following way:

  1. Before sewing the original item, we wash and dry all the socks. We sort by color if you want to somehow compose the overall pattern. If this is not done, the product will not lose its charm.
  2. To sew a jacket, each sock needs to be cut. To do this, each product is leveled and cut into strips. The width of each is 2-3 cm. Each part should look like a solid loop.
  3. Let's start weaving the pieces to make yarn from the socks. To do this, one ring is threaded through the other.
  4. Let's start knitting. Let's take it big hook and start knitting with regular knitting. All parts of the product are prepared separately, and then they need to be sewn together with ordinary threads.

Like this in a simple way you can dress your pet in original clothes own production.

Video “How to knit a sweater for a dog”

The video explains in detail how to crochet a sweater for a small breed dog.

Sorry, there are no surveys available at this time.

Materials: 50 g/225 m of yarn “Pekhorka. Children's whim" (60% merino wool, 40% PAN (fiber)).

Tools: knitting needles No. 2.5; 2 knitting pins.

Taking measurements

The first thing we start with is to measure your pet according to the following parameters (Fig. 1):

1. Neck volume.

2. Chest volume (if the stomach (waist) is larger or smaller in volume, this measurement should also be taken in order to knit the item according to the figure).

3. Back length (we measure from the withers to the place that seems optimal to you. In our case, to the tail).

We cast on 20 loops and knit a 1x1 elastic band. We measure the sample in centimeters. It turns out: 20 loops 8 cm.

1. Neck volume 28 cm.

2. Chest volume - 34 cm.

3. Back length 27 cm.

Description of work

Neck

We cast on 70 loops. (28/8 = 10 is 3 times 20 loops + 4 cm 10 loops; 60 + 10 = 70). We knit the required length with an elastic band 1 x 1 (at your discretion, you can knit 2 x 2).

We have a neck with a 12 cm lapel. But you can do without it, then 5-7 cm is enough.

Having finished with the neck, we make the necessary calculations for knitting the main part of the model.

Dogs have proportions of approximately the following order: half of the loops are on the back and half on the legs and tummy. In our case, it is divided as follows: we subtract 8 loops from the total quantity (they will be dividing loops between the sleeves, back and chest).

We leave 32 loops for the back, and divide 30 into 4 parts: 2 sleeves and 2 breast halves. It turns out 14 loops for 2 sleeves (7 loops each) and 7 loops for the chest (2 of them are edge loops).

We knit the 1st row purl loops. The next one is knit and we make the necessary increase in loops for our volume:

On the back we add three loops every 8 loops (32 + 3 = 35);

On the sleeves we add two loops, first every 2, and then every 3 loops (7 + 2 = 9);

On the breast we add 1 loop each (it turns out 9 loops).

Be careful! It is important to distribute the loops correctly at this stage! Let us describe in detail the process of adding loops.

We knit 3 faces. p. and add 1 persons. p., make a yarn over, knit 2 knits. p., which separate the front from the sleeve, yarn over again, knit 2. p., add 1 person. p., 3 persons. p. and again add 1 person. p. (7 + 3 = 10 loops), yarn over, k2. p., yarn over The result is a raglan sleeve.

Back

We knit 8 faces. p. and add 1 persons. n. Repeat 3 times (it turns out 32 + 3 = 35 loops). Yarn over, section 2. p., yarn over

Sleeve and second half of the chest are knitted similarly to the first ones. Purl row - in accordance with the picture. On the front side we knit all the front loops, and before and after the dividing loops we make a yarn over (thus we knit the required number of rows until the required volumes are obtained).

Our dress will have an openwork pattern, which we knit according to the pattern: in the first front row we make a yarn over and knit 2 knits. together you get a hole (the top of the rhombus). The purl row is knitted purlwise. P.

The second row of the pattern is on the front side: we knit 2 knits in front of the hole. p. together, then 1 persons. p., 2 persons. p. together and yarn over. Next row purl. P.

The fourth row is front. Again we knit 2 knits between the two petals. p. together and make a yarn over. Thus, we get a diamond of 4 holes. We distribute the patterns evenly throughout the product in a checkerboard pattern.

To get a beautiful arrangement of the pattern, you should make the calculation from the middle of the fabric of the back part, sleeves, etc.

Don’t forget to count the stitches and yarn over at the same time as the pattern. We knit in this way until the desired volume of the product, that is, until the width of the chest and back coincide with the volume of the pet’s chest. In our case it is 34 cm (sleeves are not included in this measurement).

As soon as the dimensions reach the required measurements, we move on to the next stage. We take knitting pins and remove the sleeves on them, fasten them and leave them until needed, and continue to knit everything else according to the same pattern (if the tummy bigger breasts, then you should add several loops evenly). We knit the desired length of the product. In our case, 27 cm to the tail (Fig. 2).

2-3 cm before the desired length of the product, we begin to close the loops evenly from the edges of the product. First, 6-7 p., then 5-6 p. And so on several times. At the end we close off the last loops that remain in the middle of the back (about 30-35 loops are obtained).

Sleeves

We remove the loops from the pins and put them on the knitting needle. We knit the required length and finish with an elastic band 1 x 1, as on the neck, cutting 4-5 loops.

Knit the sleeves a little shorter than desired to make it more comfortable for the animal to walk. From long sleeves the paws can pop out and catch with the claws, which leads to damage to the product.

Decorative elements

Making a bow. In our case, it is knitted from yarn a shade darker. We calculate the number of loops according to the width of the bow and knit the desired length with an elastic band. We clamp with yarn or ribbon in the middle and form petals.

We decorate the product to taste. We decided to crochet the edge of the dress in several rows. You can sew a ribbon as decoration. We also wove a braid that fits into the neckline and is tied beautifully.

End of work

We straighten the product and iron it through damp gauze, trying not to iron the sleeves. Carefully steam in parts, but under no circumstances iron the neck!

Then we sew the parts together with the same threads, using a large (gypsy) needle. We make a small gathering in the center of the product by about 3-4 cm, sew a bow there and thread the pigtail below the neckline.

Even shaggy dogs don't like bad weather. With rare exceptions, most dogs suffer from cold and dampness. Your pet may catch a cold and get sick if you have to walk in cold weather. And they tend to freeze even at fairly high temperatures.

That is why many caring owners acquire a whole one for their pets. Some people prefer to buy ready-made items, while handicraft lovers enjoy knitting clothes for dogs with their own hands.

Crochet or knitting needles?

.

For the final result, it is not so important how exactly knitted clothes for dogs are created: knitted or crocheted. Although differences undoubtedly exist. Dog clothes, crocheted, keeps its shape better with tight knitting. Openwork patterns provide little heat, but they look elegant.

Knitting dog clothes with knitting needles produces items that are more elastic, but also looser. There are interesting knitting patterns using relief knitting plaits and braids.

Crocheted or knitted dog clothes decorated with ornaments look beautiful. The ornament can be knitted, or you can embroider patterns on a finished product. Items with knitted patterns are thicker and denser, they retain their shape well and warm well. But the technique of knitting an ornament requires some experience in knitting several threads at the same time. You can embroider an ornament on the finished product using a special knitted stitch, crosses or satin stitch.

In addition, clothes for small dogs are often decorated decorative elements:

  • sew strips of fur, natural or artificial;
  • decorate the product with beads, beads, sequins;
  • combine knitted elements with other materials: leather, fabric, suede.

Crochet allows use different techniques. Moroccan technique knitting clothes for dogs will give a dense knitting that holds its shape well. This technique is good for knitting blankets, capes and sleeveless vests with fasteners. Conventional techniques will allow you to get beautiful clothes for dogs. Moreover, you can use a variety of leftover yarn.

Stands apart freeform knitting technique. To make models of clothing for dogs with your own hands using this technique, you first need to make a pattern in natural size, then knit the elements future clothes- so called scrambles. Then the scrambles are sewn together with a needle or crocheted with a separate thread. Making freeform models will take a little longer, but all such clothes are completely unique and inimitable. Your pet will look like a real fashionista at the dog park.

How to knit or crochet clothes for a dog

.

First you need to take measurements of your pet. Provide yourself with a sheet of paper, a pencil and a measuring tape. The number of measurements taken depends on what kind of clothes you intend to knit:

  • blanket;
  • sleeveless vest;
  • sweater;
  • overalls.

All of these may also have hoods, which will require additional measurements.

It is better to measure the width of the chest by sitting the dog down with the “ ” command. Other measurements are taken while the dog is standing. Make sure that the pet does not hunch its back or tuck its paws. When taking measurements, it is best to do the same as at a show: so that the back is level and the head is raised in accordance with the requirements of the breed standard.

.

When determining the size of dog clothing, keep in mind that you will need to make changes to the finished patterns not only according to the measurements, but also sometimes change the proportions. This is due to the fact that different dog breeds have completely different body types. Pugs have a very wide rib cage, relatively short back and neck of large girth. Italian Greyhounds are distinguished by a deep chest, long legs, and a thin and long neck.

There are differences in the design of clothing for males and females. The best option is to find patterns for knitted clothing for dogs of the exact breed of your pet.

Master classes on “How to knit dog clothes with knitting needles” usually give recommendations on the thickness of the yarn, the number of knitting needles and the order in which the work is performed. If you do not have enough knitting experience, it is better to follow the instructions provided, or try not to make too drastic changes.

Crocheting clothes for a dog is in some ways easier, since you can make necessary changes to the pattern as the work progresses.

For ease of use of knitted clothing, some models provide the use of fasteners:

  • lightning;
  • buttons;
  • buckles of different designs.

Some models of capes and blankets can be adapted for use instead of a harness. To do this, reinforcing elements are sewn into them, to which a ring is sewn for attaching a leash. You can also provide the ability to attach a hood or boots to your clothing.

Suitable materials

.

It is better to knit for animals from natural materials : wool, cotton. Synthetic yarn accumulates static electricity, which your dog may not like. For hairless breeds, you should not use coarse yarn, as their skin is very sensitive and may become irritated. Soft wool, angora, silk, soft cotton and viscose yarn are preferred.

For warmth and to maintain shape, the product can be sewn on the wrong side lining. However, be aware that the presence of a lining may make it difficult to wash. knitted product and slow down its drying. Especially if a layer of batting or padding polyester is also laid between the lining and the knitted top for insulation. However, if the dog has several pieces of clothing, this problem can be easily solved.

Where can I find patterns for knitting or crocheting clothes for dogs?

Good, carefully thought out patterns can be taken from special knitting magazines. They are sold in bookstores, specialty craft stores, and can sometimes be found at a pet store. A large assortment of such specialized literature is available in online stores.

If you decide to knit clothes for dogs with your own hands, knitting patterns and tips for completing the work can be found on the websites of needlewomen. You can also buy ready-made products.

Knit a dress for a small dog
You will need: 120 g of yarn (100% wool or acrylic), knitting needles No. 3.5, set of 5 knitting needles No. 3, 5 buttons, needle.

Completing of the work: Take measurements from the dog - neck circumference, distance from the neck to the beginning of the front legs (measure in the center of the chest), front paw circumference, chest circumference, dog body length (for a dress, take half or 2/3 of the length from the neck to the tail). Calculate the number of loops for the neck and chest circumference, calculate the difference. Cast on needles No. 3.5 required amount loops and knit a collar in garter stitch 3-5 cm, then add the required number of loops based on the difference between the neck and chest loops. Add loops in one row at equal intervals and knit until the desired height of the breast, then divide the loops into three parts: 2/3 parts - back loops, 1/3 part - breast, while casting off 4-5 loops for each armhole, taking them based on the backrest.

Knit each part separately to a length equal to half the circumference of the front paws. Then combine all the loops again, casting on the appropriate number of loops above the closed armhole loops. Having knitted to the required belly length, knit 6 rows in garter stitch, then in the next front row, double the number of loops and knit a skirt length of 6-8 cm, depending on the size of the dog. At the same time, perform the last 6 rows in garter stitch, after which all loops are cast off in one row. Sew the seam of the skirt.

On the edges of the armholes, use needles No. 3 to cast on stitches, distribute them on 4 needles and knit a sleeve of the required length in circular rows with garter stitch. For example, to the middle of the paws. Along the edges of the shelves (except for the skirt), cast on stitches on needles No. 3 and knit 4 rows in garter stitch for the placket, after which bind off all stitches in one row. On the second bar, make 5 holes for buttons, placing them at equal intervals from each other. Sew on buttons (Fig. 1).

Dress for a small dog
Nice dress for a small dog it will be useful for walks or going out.

You will need: 120 g yarn (100% wool or acrylic), knitting needles No. 3, set of 5 knitting needles No. 3.

Completing of the work: Take measurements from the dog - neck circumference, length to the middle of the back, front paw circumference, distance between the front paws. Calculate the loops for the set. Cast on the required number of stitches on the knitting needles, distribute them on 4 knitting needles and close them in a circle. Knit the collar of the dress with an elastic band of 1 ½ 1, after 3 cm from the beginning of knitting, continue the work with a pearl pattern, with all the loops distributed as follows: 2/3 back loops, 2 raglan line loops, 3 sleeve loops, 2 raglan line loops, 1/3 breast loops, 2 raglan line loops, 3 sleeve loops, 2 raglan line loops. With this distribution, the loops of the sleeves and raglan lines are taken halfway from the loops of the back and chest.

Next, knit, forming a raglan, adding 1 loop in every 2nd row before and after the raglan line, namely 8 loops in every 3rd row. Knit to the required chest length (according to the measurement), then remove the sleeve loops with pins or threads, grabbing one loop from the raglan lines on both sides of the sleeve. Combine the back and breast loops and knit in circular rows, continuing the pearl pattern. Knit to the desired length of the dress, then perform an openwork row (* knit 2 loops together, 1 yarn over *, repeat from * to * throughout the circle), then knit 2 more rows with a pearl pattern and divide the loops into 4 equal parts, Mark them with a thread of a contrasting color.

Then knit the skirt of the dress in purl stitch, adding 1 stitch before and after the stitch in every 3rd row. Add loops in the form of a yarn over, which are knitted in the next front row with a purl loop. Knit a skirt of the required length, adding one loop after every 2nd loop 4-6 rows before the end of the skirt. Next, knit 4-6 rows with a pearl pattern and bind off all the loops in one row. Along the edges of the armhole, pick up stitches on the knitting needles, distribute them on 4 knitting needles and knit in circular rows with purl stitch until the required sleeve length, while knitting the last 4 rows with a pearl pattern. Perform the second sleeve in the same way. From the remaining yarn, twist a cord with a length equal to two girths of the dog’s waist. Thread the lace through the holes of the openwork row at the waist of the dress (Fig. 2).

Dress - sundress for a dog
The sleeveless dress is knitted from cotton or acrylic yarn in a simple openwork pattern and is suitable for summer walks.

You will need: 120 g of yarn (100% cotton or acrylic), hook No. 2.5, 4-5 buttons, needle.

Completing of the work: Knitting a dress starts from the dog's waist. Knit an initial chain of air loops with a length equal to the circumference of the dog’s waist plus 2-3 cm for freedom of fit, while the number of loops should be a multiple of 10, plus 3 lifting air loops. Continue knitting in straight and reverse rows using an openwork pattern as described.

Openwork pattern

1st row (initial) - knit the 1st single crochet into the 2nd loop from the hook, * 2 single crochets, 3 chain loops, skip 2 base loops, 1 double crochet, 3 chain loops, 2 base loops skip, 3 single crochets *, repeat from * to * until the end of the row.
2nd row - 1 chain stitch, * 2 single crochet, 3 chain stitches, 3 single crochet, 3 chain stitches, 1 single crochet *, repeat from * to * until the end of the row.
3rd row - 3 chain stitches, * 3 chain stitches, 5 single crochets, 3 chain stitches, 1 double crochet in the middle of the 3 single crochets of the previous row *, repeat from * to * to end of the row.
4th row - 1 chain stitch, * 2 single crochets, 3 chain stitches, 3 single crochets on the three central single crochets of the previous row, 3 chain stitches, 1 single crochet *, repeat from * to * to the end of the row.
5th row - 1 chain stitch, * 3 single crochet, 3 chain stitches, 1 double crochet in the middle single crochet of the previous row, 3 chain stitches, 2 single crochet *, repeat from * to * to the end of the row.
To form a pattern in height, repeat rows 2-5.

Knit a fabric length from the waist to the beginning of the front legs. Next, mark the middle of the fabric, step back half the distance between the dog’s front paws to the right and knit the right strap to the desired length. Determine the width of the strap yourself depending on the size of the dog. The strap can be knitted with double crochets or continued knitting in an openwork pattern to the desired length. Next, knit a skirt, for which you fasten the thread at the beginning of knitting, close the breast strip in a circle and knit along the front side in circular rows with double crochets. At the same time, at the beginning of each row, perform 3 lifting air loops instead of 1 double crochet. End the row with a connecting column in the 3rd lifting loop.

To expand the fabric, in the first circular row, knit 2 double crochets in every 2nd stitch of the base, then in the next row, in every 3rd double crochet of the previous row, knit 2 double crochets. Repeat extensions until the desired length of the skirt is reached. The last row of the skirt is made with single crochets in each loop of the base. Tie the outer edge of the top of the dress in one row with single crochets, while making 4-5 holes for buttons on the sides of the front. Sew the straps to the shelves, determining their location by fitting. Sew buttons according to their eyelets (Fig. 3).

Dress for a dog with a pattern
A dress in blue and white stripes for a dog who is planning to spend her vacation at the seaside.

You will need: 50-60 g each of blue and white yarn (100% cotton or acrylic), set of 5 knitting needles No. 3.

Completing of the work: Take measurements: neck circumference, waist circumference, chest width, back width. Calculate the loops. On the knitting needles, cast on the required number of loops to encircle the neck with blue thread, distribute them on 4 knitting needles, close them in a circle and knit with an elastic band in 1 ½ 1 circular rows, while making a pattern of stripes, alternating 2 rows of blue and white yarn. After 4-5 cm from the start of knitting, switch to the stockinette stitch and make a pattern of stripes, alternating 4 rows of blue and white yarn.

Next, divide the loops as follows: leave the back loops according to the measurement and leave the breast loops according to the measurement, close the remaining loops (armholes) between them. In this case, there should be 1.5 times more back loops than breast loops. Continue knitting in straight and reverse rows, doing each part separately and maintaining the stripe pattern. At the same time, on both sides of each part, add 1 loop in every 4th row. Knit in this way to the required armhole height, which corresponds to half the girth of the dog’s front paw (Fig. 4).

Rice. 4 Dress pattern diagram.

After this, combine the back and breast loops again, casting on the required number of loops between them, and you should get the original number as when casting on. Next, continue the work in circular rows with an elastic band of 1 ½ 1, performing a pattern of stripes alternating 2 rows of blue and white yarn. Knit until the total length of the product is equal to the distance from the neck to the waist, then knit the skirt.

To expand the skirt fabric, divide all the loops into 8 equal parts, mark the corresponding loops and in every 3rd circular row add one loop before and after the mark. Add loops in the form of a yarn over, which is knitted in the next row. Knit the skirt to the desired length, while doing the last 4 rows in garter stitch and loosely binding all the loops (Fig. 5).

4th row - facial loops.
5th row - purl loops.

Next, continue the work with the front stitch, distributing the loops as follows: 1/3 of the loops - breast, 2 raglan line loops, 3 sleeve loops, 2 raglan line loops, 2/3 of the loops - back, 2 raglan line loops, 3 sleeve loops, 2 loops of raglan line. In this case, take the loops for the raglan lines and sleeves equally from the parts of the back and chest. To form a raglan line, add one loop before and after the raglan loops in every 3rd row. Repeat increments until the desired length is equal to the height of the breast. After that, remove the loops of the sleeves and one loop of the raglan line on both sides with a thread or pin, and combine the loops of the back and breast, close them in a circle and continue knitting in circular rows.

Having knitted the main part of the dress up to the waist, make an openwork strip, repeating the same rows as for the collar. Then make extensions for the skirt, for which you add one loop in every 2nd row at the beginning and end of each knitting needle. Add loops in the form of a yarn over and knit them in the next row. Knit to the desired length of the skirt, completing the last 5 rows according to the description of the collar. In the next row, bind off all stitches freely in one row.

Raise the sleeve loops onto the knitting needles, distribute them on 4 knitting needles, close them in a circle and knit in stockinette stitch with a length equal to 1/3 of the height of the foot. Then perform an openwork hem, repeating rows 1-5 as for the collar, double the loops in the next row, knit 4 rows with stockinette stitch, 1 row with purl stitches and in the next row loosely close the loops in one row. Thread ribbons through the holes of the openwork hems and tie the ends with bows on the front side of the dress (Fig. 6).

Dress - tunic for a dog
A cute dress with a short skirt should be knitted from yarn with the addition of mohair, then you will get a warm and beautiful thing for your dog.

You will need: 100 g yarn (60% acrylic and 40% mohair), set of 5 knitting needles No. 3.

Completing of the work: Take measurements from the dog - neck circumference, chest circumference, back width (measure between the front legs along the back), chest width (measure between the front legs along the chest), distance from neck to shoulders, body length from neck to waist. Calculate the loops for the neck girth and chest girth, calculate the difference between them. On the knitting needles, cast on loops designed to fit around the neck, distribute them on 4 knitting needles, close in a circle and knit in circular rows with an elastic band of 1 ½ 1 for a collar 10 cm high. Having knitted 5 cm of the collar, shift the pattern by 2 loops - for inflection. Then evenly add the required number of loops, the number of which should be a multiple of 6. Next, knit with the main pattern as described.
1st, 4th rows - facial loops.
Rows 2, 3 - * 3 knit stitches, 2 purl stitches, 1 knit stitch *, repeat from * to *.
Rows 5, 6 - * 2 purl loops, 4 knit loops *, repeat from * to *.
To form a pattern in height, repeat rows 1-6.

Knit to a length equal to the distance from the neck to the shoulders, after which the loops are divided as follows: breast (the number of loops corresponds to the width of the breast), 6 loops are closed for the armhole, back (the number of loops corresponds to the width of the back) and 6 loops are closed for second armhole. On the back and breast loops, knit separately in straight and reverse rows, continuing the main pattern. Knit each piece to the desired armhole height, which corresponds to half the circumference of the front paw. After that, combine the loops again, casting 6 loops over the closed loops at the armholes, respectively. On the combined stitches, knit with the main pattern until the required length of the dress, then perform the frill as follows:
1st row - * 1 front loop, 2 purl loops *, repeat from * to *.
2nd row - knit 5 loops from each knit stitch (1 knit loop, 1 purl loop, 1 knit loop, 1 purl loop, 1 knit loop, 1 purl loop).
3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10th rows - * 5 knit stitches, 2 purl loops *, repeat from * to *.
Then close the loops in one row.

For sleeves, pick up stitches along the edges of the armholes, distribute on 4 needles, close in a circle and knit in circular rows with a 2 ½ 2 elastic band until the desired length of the sleeve, after which bind off all the loops in one row (Fig. 7).

Knitted dog clothes will help protect your four-legged pet from the cold. This is especially important for small breeds and animals whose “fur coats” are not designed for frost. Craftsmen who are fond of needlework will not have any difficulty knitting or crocheting a jumpsuit, suit, blanket or sweater if they refer to the proposed patterns and instructions. Detailed description process will save knitters from the need to spend money on purchasing finished products and will allow them to create exclusive models.

    Show all

    Preparatory stage

    The ability to knit or crochet will help you create an exclusive dog outfit for your pet. However, before you start knitting a suit or overalls you should:

    1. 1. Choose a model of knitted clothes for your dog.
    2. 2. Prepare materials and tools.
    3. 3. Take measurements from the dog.
    4. 4. Draw a base pattern.
    5. 5. Calculate the knitting density.
    6. 6. Choose a pattern.
    7. 7. Develop a pattern for a specific model.

    Point 1 is individual for each master and dog owner. Although model developers usually give recommendations at the beginning of the instructions for its implementation. Next comes the listing necessary materials and tools. Using it, the master performs step 2 of the preparatory stage.

    Taking measurements from a dog

    To make the product comfortable to wear, you need patterns of the product parts in life size. Before constructing the pattern, measurements are taken from the animal. The results are recorded. To do this, use a centimeter tape to measure:

    • back length from withers to tail;
    • neck circumference (measured as close as possible to the base - shoulders);
    • chest girth (a tape measure is passed under the animal’s front paws, almost right next to them);
    • girth of the front paw at the base (closer to the stomach);
    • girth of the hind paw at the base (closer to the stomach).

    For male dogs, an additional measurement is needed - belly length. It is measured from the throat to the genitals.

    Here are the approximate measurements of Yorkies for creating a pattern, which are used in the following example:

    As you can see from the table, the length of the bitch’s belly is equal to the length of the back - there is no need to measure it, it is set automatically.

    Construction of the base pattern

    Draw a pattern on a material that is resistant to wear. The resulting pattern will have to be used more than once when making clothes with your own hands.

    Pattern-basis for modeling knitted clothes knots

    You can make a draft on a newspaper, which is then transferred to cardboard or polyethylene:

    1. 1. To construct the back detail, draw a rectangle ABVG, where AB is the length of the back, and BV is 1/3 of the chest circumference (when you turn the pattern, you get 2/3 and 1/3 for the belly detail).
    2. 2. From point A, 1/3 of the neck circumference is laid down and point D is placed.
    3. 3. 3 cm is set aside from point G to the right (the value is constant for small breeds), and point E is placed.
    4. 4. Draw the connecting segment DE. When cutting out a pattern, you need to run the top line along the fold of the paper so that when you turn it around, you get a life-size pattern.
    5. 5. To construct the belly detail of the clothing pattern for the bitch, draw a rectangle ZhZIO, in which ZhZ is the length of the back, ZI is 1/3 of the chest circumference.
    6. 6. From points G and O, put 3 cm to the right (a constant value for small dogs). These are points L and N.
    7. 7. The segment ZhO is divided into 3 equal parts by points K and M.
    8. 8. Draw connecting sections CL, MN.
    9. 9. Patterns for sleeves and trouser legs are made with a fold, that is, in the drawing they are represented as natural halves. They have the shape of rectangles, where the width is the girth of the paw, the length is arbitrary.

    The base pattern for making clothes for male dogs is drawn in the same way:

    Pattern-basis for modeling knitted clothes for a dog

    Only when constructing a belly detail should the ZH side be equal to the length of the animal’s belly (measurement from the throat to the genitals).

    Calculation of knitting density

    This stage is necessary in order to know how many loops you need to cast on for work. Experienced knitters calculate the number of rows with its help. For this:

    1. 1. Knit a sample with the selected yarn and selected knitting needles in the pattern with which you plan to knit the product.
    2. 2. The number of loops is divided by the number of centimeters of the width of the sample. This gives the number of loops in one centimeter. For example, 60 stitches were cast on (there is no need to count edge stitches), the width of the sample was 19 cm. When divided, the number obtained is 3.15. The number 3.1 is taken as a basis.

    An example of calculating the number of loops for knitting a collar. Neck girth 22 cm. You need to multiply 22 by 3.1, it turns out 68.2. IN in this case you can cast on 70 loops, neglecting tenths and adding 2 edge ones.

    The row density is calculated in the same way. Let's say the sample turned out to be 10 cm long, 22 rows were knitted in it. The number of rows is divided by the number of centimeters (22:10 = 2.2). If you need to knit a piece 31 cm long, multiply 2.2 by 31, you get 68.2. The decimal digit is less than 5, which means it can be neglected. The part will require 68 rows.

    Patterns for knitted items

    Beginning knitters often use for decoration. finished product embroidery or applique. Then to make models it is enough to make them with stockinette stitch.

    More experienced knitters use jacquard, openwork and relief patterns. To make a jacquard pattern you need to be able to work with several balls of yarn of different colors. For openwork and relief, one-color yarn is required.

    Drawing diagrams are read from bottom to top. If the diagram shows row numbers 1, 3, 5, this means that all even rows are knitted according to the pattern. If the numbers 2, 4, 6 are indicated, all odd rows are performed according to the picture.

    Jacquard patterns

    The result of this type of knitting is multi-colored pictures. These can be either two-color large patterns or multi-color striped patterns. Sometimes masters use small plot pictures.

    Blanket with jacquard pattern "Penguin"

    To make a colored pattern on a product, knit as many stitches in the desired color as are shaded in the pattern. All threads free from work at this time are passed along the wrong side. When it is necessary to change the color, the working thread is brought out to the wrong side, and the one that is needed is included in the work.

    When performing jacquard, the master should not pull together those not involved in this moment The work involves threads that are laid on the wrong side. They should not be allowed to sag. To avoid large broaches on the wrong side, every 5 loops, the non-working threads are crossed with the working thread.

    Often jacquard patterns carried out according to ready-made schemes.

    Knitting patterns for jacquard patterns "Deer" and "Bunny"

    But you can develop a scheme yourself. To do this, they select and print on graph paper or draw a picture that they plan to knit on the product. Each cell will represent a loop.

    Openwork patterns

    Sweatshirts and dresses for small breed dogs with openwork patterns look beautiful. Chihuahuas are usually the most heat-loving dogs. The owners even prepare summer clothes for them, but not as warm as for winter.

    Openwork jacket for Chihuahua

    Openwork patterns consist of a combination of 2 or 3 knitted stitches and a yarn over. When knitting a yarn over in a purl row, an openwork is formed. Thanks to these “holes” arranged in a pattern, the result is a lightweight product that can be worn in cool weather.

    Looks nice openwork blouse with a pattern "Leaves". The knitting pattern will help you complete the pattern.

    Knitting pattern openwork pattern"Leaves"

    Relief patterns

    Most patterns are made with a combination of purl and knit stitches. They are simple, requiring only precision and accuracy from the master when working.

    Simple pattern "Rhombuses"

    The diagrams show the repeating part of the pattern. It's called a report. Sometimes the report is highlighted in color general scheme, like here showing a simple diamond pattern.

    There are many design options. The master, having understood the algorithm for their composition, will be able to “invent” his own pattern quite easily.

    Scheme of the pattern "Simple diamonds", in which all even rows are knitted purl

    When making the “Simple Diamonds” pattern, all even rows are knitted with purl stitches.

    To make knitted clothes, craftsmen use designs that require an additional knitting needle. During the work process, one or more loops are removed from it. Then the next stitches after the removed ones are knitted, temporarily leaving an additional knitting needle out of work. Then the removed loops are knitted. This is how the “braid” pattern is performed. Even-numbered rows are knitted according to the pattern; the removed stitches are purled.

    Scheme of the "Braid" pattern

    To make diamonds, you also need an additional knitting needle. Only when removing one front loop and moving it to the right or left against the background of the purl stitch in even rows, it is not knitted, passing the working thread before knitting. The algorithm of this drawing is shown in the diagram “Rhombuses between braids”. This is an option for combining two patterns in one model. When performing it, you need to remember that even rows for braids and diamonds are knitted differently.

    Pattern pattern "Rhombuses between braids"

    The following instructions for knitting a jumpsuit use the "Diamonds between the braids" pattern in combination with embroidery.

    Stitched overalls for dogs with a funnel collar

    This model can be successfully paired with a toy terrier, chihuahua, spaniel, more to a large dog, for example, a dachshund, a Jack Russell terrier and even a boxer. But this model was designed for Yorkies, so in the description of the master class there is a link to this breed.

    To make a jumpsuit, a base pattern without modeling is suitable. It is convenient for beginners. Each detail here is done separately. Then the product is assembled together and stitched.

    Gray knitted overalls for Yorkie boy

    For overalls you will need about 100 g of yarn gray(with a density of 300 m / 100 g), as well as 10 g each of red and white for stripes and embroidery.

    Collar

    This part is the simplest. Even an inexperienced master can easily cope with the work using step by step instructions knitting:

    1. 1. Calculate the number of loops. 22 * 3.1 = 68.2. Take the approximate value of 68, add 2 edges, you get 70.
    2. 2. Cast on 70 loops of gray yarn on the knitting needles.
    3. 3. Knit 4 rows with a 2X2 elastic band.
    4. 4. Then tie a red thread and knit 4 rows with it. Cut off and tie the end of the thread.
    5. 5. Work similarly with white yarn.

    The collar flap is made at an arbitrary height.

    Back and belly details

    The back and belly need to be knitted at the same time. Therefore, to work, a third of the total number of loops is separated into the belly part (70: 3 = 23.3), which will be approximately 23 loops. A thread of the main yarn is tied to the row. The tummy loops are knitted with it. The remaining 57 stitches will be the back of the overalls. Add one to each part edge loop yarn over after 1 loop.

    The first stage of knitting the back is to extend along the shoulders to the armholes. The part is knitted in accordance with the table according to the pattern, following the knitting algorithm, until there are 72 loops in the row. In total, this stage includes 16 rows.

    The pattern is made in accordance with the scheme proposed in the section “Patterns for knitted items”:

    row

    13 70

    1 cr., knit the yarn over crossed, 19 elastic, 28 knots, 19 elastic, knit the yarn over crossed, 1 cr.

    14 70

    1 cr., yarn over, 20 elastic band, 28 knots, 20 elastic band, yarn over, 1 cr.

    15 72

    1 cr., knit the yarn over crossed, 20 with an elastic band, 28 knots, 20 with an elastic band, knit the yarn over with a crossed line, 1 cr.

    16 72

    1 cr., yarn over, 21 elastic band, 28 knots, 21 elastic band, yarn over, 1 cr.

    The tummy detail is knitted with an elastic band (knit 1 and purl 1). In each front row, add 2 loops (yarn over after and before the edge stitch). In the purl row, yarn overs are knitted with crossed loops and elastic bands are included in the pattern.

    Rows 17-20 are knitted according to the pattern without any additions. Then the armholes for the sleeves are made in a simple way. To do this, close 3 loops on each edge of the back and tummy. Now you should continue knitting row 22 according to the pattern. Then 3 air loops are added from each edge of the back and tummy. Knitting continues.

    During the knitting process, work is applied to the pattern. When the length of the product reaches the location of the trouser legs, the algorithm for knitting the armhole for female model repeats, but the number of rows will increase to 30. After adding air loops, knit 6 rows according to the pattern and switch to elastic. This completes the detail. A length of 1.5-2 cm is sufficient.

    The men's version of the overalls differs in that before the opening for the trouser leg begins, the belly part is completed by closing the loops.

    Sleeves, trouser legs

    For the sleeves, cast on 33 loops, for the legs - 45, knit with a 2X2 elastic band, making stripes, like on the collar. The length of the sleeves and trousers is arbitrary. After finishing the knitting, they are sewn together on the sides.

    Assembling the overalls

    Before assembling the parts together, decorate the back by embroidering flowers in rhombuses. Then the back and tummy are sewn down to the armholes. Having sewn in the sleeves, continue to sew the product on the sides to the armholes of the trouser legs. After sewing in the legs, sew the seams until the end.

    Knitted sweater for dogs with raglan sleeves: manufacturing instructions

    Most convenient way knitting - raglan on circular knitting needles without a seam. Its advantage is that the front and back are knitted from one ball without breaking the thread. The absence of seams is convenient when worn: things do not put pressure on the dog’s skin, do not rub, or tear.

    Sweater for dogs with raglan sleeves

    Begin knitting a sweater with a raglan sleeve by calculating the loops (see chapter above). Just tie the product on circular knitting needles and knit it with an elastic band in the round. Having knitted a collar of the required length, move on to the stockinette stitch. At the same time, the product begins to expand across the chest.

    There is no need to knit a sweater with raglan sleeves for dogs in the same way as for people, placing the sleeves horizontally (when the back is equal in width to the front of the sweater). The distance between the paws of quadrupeds is 2-3 times less than the back, so the calculation should be different.

    To knit raglan in products for dogs, the number of loops is divided into three parts. One part is marked by making a mark on the outer loops with a colored thread (knots are tied, which are removed after work). The sleeves of the sweater will be located in these places.

    You can add loops for raglan by knitting three in each even row from one loop: knit, yarn over, knit. Increases are made in 4 places in odd rows. Even rows are performed according to the pattern. The first addition of loops occurs on the loops marked with colored knots. Stepping back towards the back, 3 loops per sleeve mark 2 more points on the 4th loop. Thus, we get the following pattern of odd rows with a collar of 70 loops:

    The knitting algorithm is repeated until the number of loops in a row reaches the calculated chest circumference. For example, for a Yorkie from which measurements were taken (chapter “Taking measurements from a dog”) it will be 36 * 3.1 = 111.

    After this, the loops of the sleeves (14 knits between the loops along which the increase was made) are transferred to the reserve on the thread, and the row goes in a circle from the back to the front, without catching the bottom. In this way, a sweater of the required length is knitted using stockinette stitch, the loops are closed, and the thread is broken.

    The sleeve loops are transferred to circular knitting needles, a working thread is tied and knitted in the round using stockinette stitch. Upon reaching the right size The row is closed, the thread is cut.

    You can decorate a sweater with embroidery, decorative details, buttons, and pompoms.
