Patent leather shoes are distinguished by sophistication and grace, which is why they are very popular. But in order for such shoes not to lose their visual appeal for as long as possible, they need proper care.

Patent leather shoes should not be worn in extreme heat (when the temperature is above 25 degrees), because under the influence of too much high temperature a thin varnish film stretches, loses its former strength and elasticity, and then generally cracks. Also, patent leather shoes are not recommended to be worn in hot weather, because they do not allow moisture and air to pass through well: feet sweat a lot in them, which can later lead to the development of a fungal disease.

Low temperatures also have a negative impact on the health of shoes. You should not wear it if the temperature outside is below -10 degrees.

In addition, patent leather shoes are not the best choice for bad weather, for example, when it is raining outside and there is mud and puddles all around. Street dirt has a negative impact on varnish coating: it fades, becomes covered with many small wrinkles and loses its beauty and grace.

How to care for patent leather shoes

To care for patent leather shoes, you cannot use regular cream for leather goods: it is not intended for patent leather surfaces. After several cleanings with this cream, sophisticated shoes with a patent surface will turn into standard nondescript shoes. For these purposes, use a special cream for patent leather shoes.

Very dirty patent leather shoes can be washed with warm soapy water and then wiped dry

“Homemade” products for caring for patent leather shoes are no less effective: they work no worse than professional mixtures. For example, to restore the shine to dull patent leather shoes, their surface is treated with egg white and polished with velvet cloth. A similar effect can be achieved if you lubricate the varnish surface of your shoes with petroleum jelly, castor oil or glycerin, leave this product for 13-15 minutes, and then remove the excess using a clean cotton pad.

An excellent effect on patent leather shoes is provided by a mixture for the preparation of which the following components are taken: 2.5-3 tbsp. l. turpentine; 1−1.5 tsp. vegetable oil; chicken egg yolk.

The components are thoroughly mixed, after which patent leather shoes are treated with the resulting composition. Thanks to such procedures, the skin becomes softer and more elastic, and it will be less susceptible to breakage.

In order for new patent leather shoes to be better preserved, they are wiped from dust with soft cloth napkin, for example, a piece of flannel. Next, the varnish surface is treated with milk, and when it dries, the shoes are rubbed with half an onion. But you should never clean patent leather shoes with a brush.
