Pattern modeling

The Snow Maiden costume pattern is based on any basic pattern. To do this, decorate the reliefs on the front and back, add an extension at the bottom along the seams of 8.0 - 10.0 cm. When modeling the front, the chest dart closes and opens at the relief seam from the armhole.

Do you want to learn how to build your own dress design for any figure? Then take a look at my course:

Cutting the product

Cover the Basics

Be sure to decate the fabric before cutting. Lay the fabric out on a flat surface, doubled with right sides facing in and edges facing you. When cutting, follow the direction of the pattern or pile. Lay out the pattern pieces on the fabric, leaving room for seam allowances: along the reliefs, middle seam, shoulders and armholes, seam width is 1.5 cm, along the sides, seam allowance is 2.0 cm, along the bottom and neckline, 1.0 cm. Trace the pattern onto fabric and cut out the pieces taking into account seam allowances.

Modeling and cutting sleeves

According to the model in the Snow Maiden costume, the sleeves are gathered to form a lantern sleeve. To do this, it is necessary to increase the sleeve cap. Make a duplicate of the pattern out of paper using the top of the sleeve. Place several marks along the edge with a distance of 1.5 - 2.0 cm from the center in one direction and the other. Draw a line from the points down to the intersection of the center of the sleeve and the horizontal line (determining the height of the collar).

Cut along the resulting lines, not reaching the intersection of the lines in the center 0.2 cm. Then cut along the horizontal line of the sleeves, not reaching the edges of the pattern 0.2 cm. Lay out the pattern on the fabric, spread the sleeve edge to the desired size. Trace the pattern of the sleeve cap, widen the sleeve towards the bottom. Apply 1.5 cm at the hem, 2.0 cm at the sleeve seams, and 1.0 cm at the bottom.

Sewing a dress

Connecting parts

Sew the reliefs on the front and back, as well as the middle seam (leaving room for the zipper) and side seams.

Overcast the reliefs on the overlocker (pressed, i.e. seam allowances together), the allowances of the reliefs should be directed towards the centers. Press the middle seam and side seams, i.e. allowances in different directions. Using an iron, iron the reliefs on the shelf and back; Press the middle seam and side seams.

Product setup

Lay the product on a flat surface, matching the side seams, reliefs on the shelf and back. Align the cuts of the collar, neckline and shoulder seams, secure with tailor's pins. Align the hem, the armhole (before sewing, try on the product with the right sleeve, make changes along the armhole, if necessary, deepen the armhole in the front, bottom and along the shoulder), as well as the shoulder seams, deepen the neckline for the stand-up collar, approximately 2.0 cm.

Split the pins, finish the shoulder seams (double stitch 0.1 cm apart for reinforcement) and press to the back.

Processing the bottom with fur

Cut out a strip of fur 8.0 - 10.0 cm wide, length = the length of the bottom. Baste the fur trim to the bottom, aligning the right side of the fur with the wrong side of the bottom of the garment.

If the fur strip consists of several parts, then it is recommended to connect the fur in the direction of the pile, using hand stitches end-to-end.

Sew fur trim onto sewing machine, be careful the fur should not come out.

If this happens, carefully hide the fur inside with scissors.

Remove the basting threads, fold the fur over to the front side, secure with pins around the entire circumference and baste to the product.

On the front side, sew the fur trim on a machine, 0.1 - 0.2 cm from the cut. Remove hand stitches.

Stitching the decorative strip at the front

Cut a strip of fur 8.0 - 10.0 cm wide, length = the length of the shelf from the neck to the fur trim along the bottom, the pile should be directed from top to bottom. Pin the trim in the center, hand baste and machine stitch around the edges.

Remove temporary threads and comb the fur with a special brush or comb.

Stitch and overcast the seams on the sleeves.

Along the edges of the sleeves, use contrasting threads to lay 2 parallel lines for gathering.

Tighten the threads by pulling both at once and create a uniform assembly for the flashlight along the top of the okat.

Processing the bottom of the sleeves

Process the bottom of the sleeves in the same way as the bottom of the product.

Connecting sleeves to the product

Baste and stitch the sleeves into the armholes, sewing double stitches (0.1 cm apart) for reinforcement along the bottom of the armholes.

Overcast the sections from the side of the product, and tie a knot of thread at the end of the overcasting stitch.

Iron seam allowances to edge

Processing a stand-up collar

Cut out two pieces from fur, width = 12.0 cm, length = half the length of the neck. Then cut out pieces from the main fabric with a width of 10.0 cm, length = half the length of the neck. Add 1.0 cm allowances on the parts along the cuts. To give the collar a shaped shape, decorate the top cut of the stand with a concave line that turns into a decrease in the width of the collar.

Connect the fur parts with the fabric parts using a sewing machine, along the concave cuts.

Then sew the wide ends of the collar, bending the fur part by 1.0 cm.

Turn the rack pieces right side out and straighten the corners. Thanks to the rolling, an edging was formed on the front side due to the fur detail.

Collar-neck connection

Sew the collar into the neckline, aligning the center of the neckline with the wide ends of the stand-up collar. Make a 0.7 cm cut in the center of the neckline. Sew the collar into the neckline.

Sewing in a hidden zipper

When processing the fastener, the zipper should extend onto the stand-up collar up to the joint seam on the collar.

Fold the fur part of the collar over to the wrong side and stitch the ends of the collar together with the zipper. When turning, try to keep the stitching a little further from the zipper to avoid getting lint under the slider.

Secure the cut fur collar to the neckline, machine stitched on the front side.

Close the zipper, check the quality and iron gently.

Fur trim can be decorated with pearl beads.

Making the Snow Maiden's kokoshnik

You will need:

  • Cardboard
  • Textile
  • Decorative trim: rhinestones, beads, braid, lace, etc.
  • Silicone glue gun

Make a model of a kokoshnik from plain paper.

Then transfer it to cardboard and cut it out. Cut out two parts from the fabric in the shape of a kokoshnik, one part should be 1.5 cm larger.

Using a glue gun, glue the fabric piece along the contour to the cardboard kokoshnik shape.

Use scraps of fur to give your kokoshnik a wonderful look.

Decorate the front with a kokoshnik using bead weaving (you can use the technique of weaving collars, which is available on bead weaving websites).

To keep the kokoshnik tight, sew wide ribbons at the back, which you can make yourself.

Use available materials, such as scraps of braid, extra beads or rhinestones, to get a magnificent kokoshnik. I want to say that I never throw away beautiful shreds, because I know that they will definitely come in handy. to contents

New Year's Eve is a time for matinees and masquerades. Children and adults are happy to change their everyday clothes to. Not a single event is complete without the main character - the Snow Maiden. Girls and girls who are not afraid of the increased attention attracted to the young sorceress dress up as the granddaughter of Santa Claus. The Snow Maiden's outfit can be purchased in the store or rented. But there are two big “buts”.

Firstly, this is the most popular festive costume after Santa Claus' fur coat. Popularity is reflected in prices. Secondly, if you buy your daughter an outfit at the nearest supermarket, her classmate may come wearing the same thing, and the holiday will be ruined. To prevent coincidences, we suggest making a Snow Maiden costume. Put in a little effort and get a unique outfit for you or your daughter!

Snow Maiden costume: traditional or modern

We are used to seeing Moroz's granddaughter in long fur coat or a warm trapeze dress with patterns and fur trim. The Snow Maiden wears white high-heeled boots or felt boots, a luxurious kokoshnik or hat. Her wardrobe is dominated by blue, white and silver. Blonde hair the sorceress hides it under a headdress or collects it in a braid down to the waist.

Classic Snow Maiden outfits in blue with white trim
No blue clothes? Don't worry - the outfit can be made completely white!

IN last years The Snow Maiden's costume has changed. A dress or fur coat has become tight-fitting and shortened down to “mini” length; the kokoshnik is increasingly being replaced by a hat, and the braid by loose curls. Russian girls look closely at the image of Santa Claus's assistant, who wears a red dress or pantsuit with a black belt. In general, the choice is great.

Snow Maiden costume from ready-made clothes

You don't have to create an outfit from scratch. Look for an unwanted dress or a set of a skirt and cape, shirt or blouse. It is advisable that the clothes be blue, dark blue or white. Although the Snow Maiden is a winter sorceress, do not take thick clothes that will make you hot. But if you're going to fancy dress, then, of course, you need to insulate yourself.

Perhaps you have a dress or robe that can easily be altered

Trim the hem, sleeve ends and collar edges with white fur or silver tinsel. You can “ennoble” the dress with a sequin pattern, openwork snowflakes, shiny pebbles. The remaining materials will be used to decorate felt boots and mittens. For an indoor matinee, it is better to choose white shoes or ballet flats.

We make the American Snow Maiden's outfit from a short red dress or flared trousers and a sweater with long sleeve. It is enough to trim the edges of your clothes with white fur, wear a wide black belt, and white or black shoes. It's great if the dress has a hood. Otherwise, wear a red Santa hat. Before the New Year they are sold at every turn.

Add a red mini-dress with a white trim and a cap - and the outfit is ready!

How to sew a Snow Maiden dress?

If you haven’t found clothes that would suit Frost’s granddaughter, sew them yourself. For materials, choose fleece or patterned brocade in blue or white. To determine the desired length of fabric, add the length of the sleeve to the desired length of the dress. For the trim, take white fur with pile. Don't forget about threads, buttons, zippers or Velcro, as well as decor - the materials must be combined with each other. Work as usual.

Find a suitable pattern, and if you wish, draw it yourself. Transfer the design to the back of the fabric, cut out and baste the details. Try them on a model. If all the elements of the suit fit well, sew the side and shoulder seams. Mark and sew the sleeves, sew fur to the hem and sleeves, and add a zipper or Velcro. Decorate your outfit with rhinestones, stones, and fabric snowflakes. Sew a belt from the remaining fabric.

How to sew a cape for a Snow Maiden costume?

Despite all your efforts, your suit doesn’t look smart? Complete it with a velvet and brocade cape. As a rule, it reaches to the waist, but the length of the product depends on your choice. A short cape will fit into the outfit of the little Snow Maiden, and a long cape will replace a fur coat. The fabric consumption is two lengths of the cape plus seam allowances.

The pattern is very simple. You can apply it directly to fabric folded in half and secured with pins. To ensure that the large arc comes out smooth, draw with strokes. For the throat, cut out a semicircle with a diameter of 15 cm. If you make it narrower, the product will not fit well on the shoulders. You can gather the fabric at the neck into a drawstring and pull it off beautiful ribbon. Cut out the blank, tuck and stitch the edges of the cape. Decorate the hem and neck with white fur.

How to sew a Snow Maiden hat?

To sew a headdress, use the pattern of any hat

It is advisable to make the headdress from the same fabric as the outfit. As a last resort, the patterns on clothes and hats should not be very different. To monochromatic suits the dress an accessory with an ornament, and vice versa. The Snow Maiden's hat consists of six wedges. To calculate the size of each of them, determine the circumference of the head, add three to this number and divide the sum by six.

The height of the headdress is measured from the ear to the crown. Transfer the pattern to the fabric and cut, taking into account the seam allowance. Sew the wedges on a sewing machine, trim the bottom with fur or silver tinsel, and sew a pompom to the top. Decorate the hat to your own taste.

How to make the Snow Maiden's kokoshnik?

Decorating a kokoshnik with beads, rhinestones and sequins

IN folk tales Moroz's granddaughter wears a traditional headdress with a “snow” ornament. To create it you need:

  • elastic wire;
  • beautiful fabric in silver or blue;
  • collar glued fabric or cardboard;
  • Super glue;
  • paper clips;
  • at least 5-6 hours of free time.

Instructions

Measure the diameter of the head and make a sketch of the kokoshnik, indicating the length of the rim and top. Fold the frame of the headband from two pieces of wire, and the crown from one piece of wire. Construct the middle of the rim from cardboard or collar fabric. The greater its width, the better the kokoshnik holds. Attach the part to the frame over the edge, tightly pulling the ends of the wire together. Lubricate the structure with glue. Cut out the top of the kokoshnik from cardboard and sew it to the wire.

Creating a base for a kokoshnik: wire frame

Cover the back side of the product with fabric, cutting out the part with allowances and turning them over to the front side. Use paper clips for fastening. Finish the bottom of the headband with fabric cut along the bias thread. Fold the seam allowances from the front side outwards. On the back side, fold or cut the seam allowances to the edge (depending on the texture of the fabric), and then glue them. Cover the top of the headband and the crown with fabric cut to the edge.

Instructions for gluing a kokoshnik with fabric and beads

Don’t be afraid to leave seams on the product: they can be easily hidden under jewelry. If you did everything correctly, the kokoshnik is ready to wear and holds firmly on your head. It's decor time! A plain kokoshnik can be decorated using the quilling technique, painting on fabric or with ornaments made from decorative stones and sequins. If the fabric is colorful, don't go overboard with the design. Decorate the edges of the crown and rim with Christmas tree beads, pebbles or satin ribbon.

Adding a tulle cap and bow to the kokoshnik

Glue a tulle “cap” under the base, which will secure the kokoshnik on the head. From the front side the “cap” goes over the forehead, from the back it is gathered with an elastic band. Sew ties at the back for a bow that will fit into the design of the folk headdress. The work is long and labor-intensive, but the result is worth the effort! Instead of a kokoshnik, you can use a white headband with snowflakes glued to it, or a children's tiara sprinkled with sparkles.

Do-it-yourself Snow Maiden kokoshnik. A sea of ideas for decorating a kokoshnik!

Kokoshnik - an ancient Russian headdress

- a symbol of Russian traditional costume!

The secret of sewing a “flat” kokoshnik is simple: it is sewn with a backdrop, a sort of “cap” on which it rests. Large decorative bows are also sometimes placed on the backdrop.

First, a silhouette is cut out from thick cardboard or glued in several layers, it is also the front part of the kokoshnik. Its inner arc is first cut out in a newspaper sketch, the optimal shape is found experimentally. Then comes the turn of patterns, the most painstaking part of the work.

ATTENTION! All sizes are given here just for comparison! (and without seam allowances) - You will still have to measure them again. The kokoshnik is a very individual thing, and if you try to put it on even a similar-looking head, you won’t succeed. But it will sit like a glove!

The patterns consist of a tracing paper of the front side, the “face” of the kokoshnik, a long panel of the top and the “back”. Everything is in at least 2 copies.

Measurements:

In the figure, the lines along which measurements are taken are indicated in red. The cross is the approximate “top,” the corner point of the head. In practice, the distance up and down from it is approximately equal.

Open the top of the back:

It is most convenient to first sew the backdrop separately using the first measurements, and then, putting it on your head, adjust it, pinning it with pins along the way - this is the origin of the sharp cutout, indicated by a dotted line on the cutting of the top. Once fitted, it can be stitched straight away.

Open the back of the back:

Place a cardboard base on a tightly stretched, ready-made backdrop and draw chalk along the contour of the contact of the fabric to the cardboard. (This is easy to do in front of a mirror.) As a result, you will get an oval notch on the long top panel. It can be cut out and hidden in the seams, or you can leave it as a “visor” covering part of the forehead (but then it will be a little more difficult to sew on the front part).

The backdrop is sewn in at least two layers (if the fabric is very thick, you can do it in one, but you will have to hide the reverse), with thin fabric or a very heavy top (for example, heavily decorated with stones) - in several layers.

Reveal faces:

The face of a kokoshnik comes in a wide variety of shapes and depends only on the imagination of the author.

2 parts are cut out from the main fabric according to the finished cardboard silhouette (don’t forget the seam allowances). It is not necessary to make a lining for the back part, but for the front part it is simply necessary. Whether the kokoshnik is decorated with embroidery and beads or rhinestones and stones, it will all look much better on the backing. As such, it is good, for example, to use flannel - it is thick and soft, and besides, it can be lightly quilted so as not to bulge and there are no seams along the edges.

If the main fabric is thin and see-through, the backing should be matching or white.

Then you sew the backing to the main front fabric along the contour (that is, without going into the territory of the seam allowances), and sew the first (inner) backdrop along the edge of the inner contour. You perform the same operation with the second copies, with the only difference that here one layer is enough for the backing - it’s still worth doing it, because all the seams will be drawn back. To prevent the edges of the material from puffing up, it is better not to hem it, but to stitch it with a zigzag.

Now both parts of the “face”, turned inside out, are stitched along the entire length of the kokoshnik arc: on the one hand - from the top (center) down to the bottom corner, and on the other - in the same way, but bending over this corner and including the lower part, to from the very beginning of the backdrop. Next, all the “excess” fabric of the seams is brought to the back, where it is carefully straightened out and masked behind the backing. This is the last moment to ensure that everything is done correctly.

After this, you can insert the cardboard base inside and manually stitch the bottom of the second arc. If you sew the bottom on both sides at once, it will be difficult to insert and may even bend. Both backdrops are stitched manually, but very carefully, along the inner arc of the kokoshnik. The bottom of the backdrops can also be sewn by machine.
