Glue glitter. And let the whole world shine! (dry glitters, master class). Combination of sparkles with other decor

Today I have prepared an interesting review about a shimmering and sparkling assistant - glitter. In this article I will tell you what types of glitter there are and how to use them.

Glitter- small pieces of paper, film, glass or plastic painted in different colors. You can use it to add shine to your work. Glitter can be dry, mixed with glue, mixed with embossing powder, or micro-glitter.

How beautiful our feathers and butterflies turned out!

Using dry glitter in Mixed Media style

First, let's prepare the materials:

  • texture paste
  • stencil
  • palette knife
  • dry glitter
  • watercolor paper or scrapbooking paper
  • acrylic paint (color suitable for glitter)

Mix acrylic paint and texture paste (I also added dry glitter, but I didn’t get any effect, so you don’t have to add it).

Using a stencil or mask we apply our “mixture” onto paper

Remove the stencil and sprinkle with dry glitter

It turns out a very beautiful relief pattern :)

I showed only part of how dry glitter can be used. The article will be supplemented with new master classes.

Wishing you endless inspiration and creative victories!

Remember how our mothers beat Christmas tree decorations with a hammer and sprinkled our crowns of snowflakes and queens with wonderfully shiny shards? So, I hasten to inform you that now our possibilities for using sparkles for decoration have increased many times over. We have glitter at our disposal: tiny (less than a millimeter) particles made of glass, paper, plastic, often metallic or neon colors, with a holographic or pearlescent effect.
However, most scrapbookers bypass glitter for fear of visually “cheapening” the work with a large amount of glitter. This opinion seems terribly unfair to me - a drop of glitter will add charm to almost any work: contrasting sparkles will add brightness and dynamics, and tone-on-tone colors will help highlight elements on vintage or shabby chic pages.
And absolutely for sure - there is no more desirable decoration for New Year cards and pages: scatterings of precious treasures, the mysterious flickering of snow or candles - here it is, the holiday atmosphere! Therefore, it seems to me that now is the time to get acquainted with the types of glitter and the features of their use.

1. Glitter glue
. The glitter is already mixed with glue and poured into small bottles with a convenient tip: unscrew the cap and you're done! People love this glitter for its ease of use and economical consumption. Especially strong - if the name of the holiday man Tim Holtz is on the packaging, this is always a guarantee of quality. Indeed, on the postcard with the bird there is a drop of this particular product here and there - and the picture acquired expressiveness. You just need to remember that non-waterproof ink will blur under the influence of glue, and for fine lines he is also completely unsuitable. But for dots, wide stripes and large elements we cannot find a better assistant.

2. Dry glitter.
However, covering a fairly large surface with glue glitter will be very wasteful, and the people's favorite simply cannot cope with detailed drawing of images. Let's call for help with dry glitter, stamps and an adhesive stamp pad (instead of ink, it is impregnated with glue). We put a sticky print on paper, sprinkle it with glitter, let it dry, shake off the remains. One of the best loose glitters is from Martha Stewart: a rich palette of colors and good quality. Look at the postcard with trees - the trees themselves are made using exactly this technique, and the snow under them is the “work” of glitter glue. However, dry glitter may not be on its own, but as part of, for example, embossing powder. It is also perfect for this method, unless, of course, you forget to heat the picture sprinkled with it with a hairdryer.

3. If we need something truly airy or sophisticated jewelry, we will need glue pen and micro glitter- such small sparkles that the grains are not even visible. Head to the cosmetics department: body glitter is the most affordable type of micro-glitter. We stamp the picture with the usual ink, let it dry thoroughly, then use a pen to outline the highlighted element and quickly sprinkle it with micro-glitter, dry it again and shake off the excess. The glue pen does its job wonderfully! And as a result, our dragonfly developed delightfully shiny wings and antennae, as if sprinkled with precious sugar.

And to finally convince you of the magical properties of glitter, I’ll give you one more piece of advice: a pinch of glitter added to a freshly applied 3D gel from Tim Holtz will make part of the design not only voluminous, but also elegant. And another one, but mixed with floral mixes, will make the “fluffy” elements sparkle. I sincerely wish you truly brilliant results and mutual love with miracle glitters!

How to use glitter in scrapbooking.

Glitter- one of the most valuable scrap goods that should be in the arsenal of every needlewoman. You can get acquainted with the assortment of glitters here, and we will tell you how to choose and apply them in our article.

Types of glitters:

Glitter is very small particles of paper, glass or plastic, colored in different colors. This material is indispensable in scrapbooking, because with its help you can add shine and decorate any work. Glitter looks especially good in scrap projects dedicated to the New Year, Christmas or wedding day - an album or card immediately takes on an elegant look after just a few touches of glitter.

Glitters vary in color, grinding and release form. The last point is the most important when choosing a material - depending on your goals and area of application of the glitter, pay attention to the choice of packaging, so it will definitely be convenient for you to work with:

  • Dry. Basically, it's glitter. Just sprinkling dry glitter on the paper is not enough - you need to attach the glitter to an adhesive substance. To decorate your work with dry glitter, apply glue or double-sided tape to the desired location, and then sprinkle it with glitter. After the glue has dried, or immediately in the case of double-sided tape, shake off the residue and voila - a beautiful coating is ready. This type of glitter is suitable for covering a large surface; it will be difficult to decorate small details with it.
  • Glue. Glitter glue is a material in which an adhesive substance is already mixed with glitter. This type of glitter greatly simplifies the work when you need to decorate the contours of parts or create a pattern of sparkles. As a rule, this type of glitter is packaged in a jar with a dispenser spout, which allows you to use the product sparingly and create wide lines, images and entire pictures of glitter.
  1. If you need to create a very small design using glitter, use a glue pen and dry glitter - apply the image to the paper with a pen and sprinkle glitter on top.
  2. To secure the dry glitter and limit it from falling off, coat the image with clear varnish when finished.
  3. Glitter can be used to decorate and create designs not only on paper - decorate brads, beads, three-dimensional figures, buttons and ribbons.
  4. If you combine glitter and 3D gel, you will get very beautiful effect, which will be both voluminous and festive.
  5. Even without good drawing skills, you can create beautiful drawings glitter. To do this, buy not a standard stamp pad, but one soaked in glue, dip the stamp in it, make an impression, and then sprinkle glitter on top.
  6. When working with loose glitter, always place a clean sheet of paper - this will help not get the table dirty, and also save money - when you're done, just pour the excess glitter from the sheet back into the jar and reuse.
  7. Creating a retro effect with glitter is as easy as shelling pears. Tint the drawing made with glitter with distressing ink.
  8. Glitter can be used not only when creating holiday cards and albums. Try adding a little glitter to your shabbyshic designs, for example to accent the center of flowers or petals.
  9. If you are using adhesive-based glitter, please note that if you are tracing a stamp made in advance on paper, you must use waterproof ink for it, otherwise the glue in the glitter will cause them to smear.
  10. When working with glitter, make sure that there are no drafts in the room - the material is very light and one breath of wind can decorate the entire room.

Shiny, shimmering New Year's toys You can make it with your own hands from almost any material (paper, plastic, plywood, glass, etc.) if you use glitter - decorative sparkles of different colors and shades, which are sold in shops and departments of materials for handicrafts.

Shiny particles can be of different sizes; you need to choose them depending on what size the toy will be decorated and what effect you want to achieve.

So, very small glitters are about 0.1 mm in size. On the toy they will look like shimmering dust. These glitters are good for creating patterns using stencils. For example, christmas balls, decorated with shiny patterns, look very elegant. Large glitters – with particles of about 4 mm. A toy decorated with them will look fluffy and “shaggy”.

How to glue glitter on a toy

The glitters are made from metallized polyethylene film. Actually, this is what it is, only chopped into small pieces. Naturally, you need special glue so that the glitter sticks well and does not fall off. In addition, the glue must be transparent in order to spoil appearance toys. There are several options here:

  1. Aerosol glue. The most convenient option for sticking glitter. Spray the toy in parts from the can, wait 1 minute and sprinkle glitter on top. Just be careful when buying spray glue: you need glue for lightweight materials (there is construction glue, for wood, etc.).
  2. Glue for rhinestones. Also sold in departments for needlewomen. Here you will have to use a brush. Apply glue to the surface of the toy (also in parts, since it dries instantly) and immediately sprinkle with glitter. We wait a little, then shake off the unadhered particles onto a sheet of paper (we reuse them).
  3. Can be used acrylic glue or PVA glue. Don't worry about the white color—after these glues dry, they turn clear.

Use any adhesive very carefully. Some people want to apply clear glue on top to secure the glitter. Of course, you shouldn’t do this - New Year’s toys will lose their special shine and charm.

What New Year's toys can be made using glitter?

Glitter will decorate any handmade toy. Moreover, they will hide its flaws if you couldn’t make it super neat. Practice on something simple: for example, cut out a snowflake from thick cardboard and decorate it on both sides with glitter. And cones, and acorns, and nuts can be made Christmas decorations.
