Casio g shock watch steel case. Dreams come true: steel G-Shock. Delivery and pickup

If you like the pleasant heaviness and coolness of metal on your hand, then the GIEZ sub-series is definitely worth a try.

As the popularity of G-Shocks increased, the line of produced models expanded. The growth occurred both in the number of models sold in pieces and in the range. Digital-analog protected models appeared, “registered” models began to stand out - those that in the future will become a subseries PROFESSIONAL or Master Of G( , etc) . The price range also increased steadily.

And according to the laws of the marketing genre, additional subseries were required to appear, significantly different from the main general line. Both for the sake of additional profit and for PR of the brand + to analyze development prospects.

In strict accordance with the name (which stands for Metal-Twisted), the body was a sandwich of metal and plastic.

And the basis of the series is metal. It's no secret that quite quickly ordinary G-SHOCKs (with rare exceptions - see, for example) switched to a plastic design. The strength of the original, made in a metal case with a screw-on lid, additionally enclosed in plastic armor, turned out to be even excessive during testing. And very soon his heirs lost that same metal body. All that remained was the cover plate, attached to the plastic with 4 bolts.

But not everyone liked it. And for those who wanted something “heavier” – metal cases were revived in the . Alas, despite the incredible level of noise created by lovers of metal and screw caps on the Internet, real demand did not live up to expectations, and this series is in an almost half-dead state. But you can still get a watch. And the watch is great.

That’s why I’m glad to introduce today’s hero – the GS-1050.

To be very precise - two heroes. Brothers GS-1050-1A and GS-1050b-5A

This model was produced in 2 versions differing in color.

GS-1050b-5A – steel with a bronze-colored coating, with a strict black and white dial and blued buckle

GS-1050-1A – uncoated steel, brighter dial with red accents in the design.

The body is a steel cylinder. The lid, as expected, is screw-on.

With protection, everything is naturally unique. On the one hand, metal is certainly stronger than plastic. But on the other hand, firstly, it loses its presentation much faster when struck - however, it gets scratched, and secondly, it transmits the shock to the watch mechanism much better. So it’s still not worth using this watch in a particularly extreme way. They will suffer on the outside and it won’t be too good on the inside. Instead of total external rubber protection, there are 2 pads on the sides, secured with screws, slightly covering the body and glass from accidental impacts. A sort of “armored bra” from the watch industry;) But it looks beautiful – you can’t deny it. As well as metal inserts in the color of the case on the belt with GIEZ stamping:
By the way, the belt itself is very nice. It is very elastic and soft. It fits your hand perfectly and is comfortable at the same time. A very, very weighty (metal after all) watch sits on it just fine
As you can easily see, the watch is digital-analog. And this, in my opinion, is quite a big plus. The GIEZ series, alas, did not receive truly sophisticated modern multi-motor mechanisms (apparently the housings were not included in the budget due to the price) - therefore, for the most part, pointer GIEZs have reduced functionality. Either there is no timer, then there is no stopwatch, or there are no alarm clocks. In this case, there was no need to sacrifice anything.

The top display is responsible for displaying information - either the time zone or the day of the week + indicators.

The right dial shows the time of the second time zone in 24-hour format, which is very convenient (the PM/AM indicator is on the top display).

The left dial arrow is a mode indicator (WT, ST, TR, AL available), in time display mode it shows the battery charge level (C, L, M, H) or is in a parking space in sleep mode (P.S). T1/T2 is the mode of displaying information on the displays at the time of selection. DayWeek/TimeZone for the top and Time/DayMonth for the bottom.

All additional functionality (stopwatch, timer, alarm clock) is organized on the lower display. On the left side of it. Right section – replacing the second hand)

In general, the organization is convenient and does not cause any complaints. As is already clear from the presence of a charge indicator and the inscription TOUGH SOLAR– the clock is powered by light. It is enough to wear them from time to time in good lighting and you don’t have to worry about replacing the battery for quite a long time.

And the backlight (including automatic - when you turn your hand) can be used unlimitedly.

Speaking of lighting. A light-accumulating composition is applied to the hands and marks. Not that very bright, but noticeable. Particularly pleasing is the double risk at 12 o'clock. You can never confuse up and down in the dark.
In addition to the phosphor, there is also an active backlight – implemented in the form of an LED at 6 o’clock. Looks enchantingly beautiful:
The usefulness, alas, is minimal - it practically does not illuminate the screens. EL backlight would be much more appropriate. But you can see the arrows after the lume has run out without any problems.

In general, it’s quite interesting - but the same watch with different colors looks completely different. Silver with playful red notes versus strict black and gold.

It is impossible to choose who is more beautiful. Both are good, each in their own way, no matter how you look at it!

In general, if it weren’t for the extreme rarity of finding this model on sale (alas, it’s time to put it in the Red Book) – I could recommend it to everyone.

The silver ones are now one of my favorite watches, and the bronze ones are one of my colleague’s most favorite watches (special thanks to him for providing the copy for the photo shoot).

For all those who like weighty metal on their hands, for a change after weightless ordinary plastic G-Shocks - if you can find them on sale - you can take them without hesitation.

Hello community!
I have long dreamed of having wristwatch. After strangling the toad, the choice fell on a metal version.
Further description below the cut.

Initially I wanted to buy regular shocks, with a rubber strap, but after looking at many offers, these were chosen.
This model was captivated by the very large numbers of hours and minutes and the absence of “extra” bells and whistles on the dial.

I would like to immediately give a few clarifications on the characteristics. The weight is inaccurate. The watch weighs 145 grams. After removing 4 links of the bracelet (adjusted it to fit my hand), the weight dropped to 127. Also, time calibration via radio channel does not work in Russia (the receiver in the watch is designed only for the transmitter of the American tower, which is located in Fort Collins). I found out about the transmitter after receiving the watch - well, it’s my own fault - I should have Googled deeper.
There are no complaints about other functions. Alarm clocks work, backlight, stopwatch too. Time Recorder - haven't figured out what it's for yet.

A few words about delivery. It took 4 weeks. The seller did not provide a tracking number, sending the watch by regular mail. Although in his description he warns that shipping with tracking is available for an additional $11.50.
The package is cardboard box which contained an invoice and a package of watches, sealed with crumpled newspaper. The box was not damaged during the trip; customs did not open it.

Watch weight ~0.320 lbs (145 grams)

Now about the pros and cons:
+ G-Shock;
+ large numbers of hours and minutes;
+ metal;
+ no battery;
+ very comfortable and reliable clasp;
+ no “extra” donuts on the dial;
- after all, they are not entirely metal (the bracelet is attached to the watch through a plastic part);
- radio synchronization does not work in Russia;
- chrome dial bezel and G button (they are matte in the seller’s photo).

Summarizing the above, I want to say that I liked the watch. I don’t feel them on my hand, despite their decent weight. Hair does not pinch. The buttons are pressed with little effort.

As you probably already know, dear readers, this year Casio celebrates the 35th anniversary of G-Shock. In honor of this event, the Japanese brand tirelessly releases one thematic collection after one. We have already covered some, some were even reviewed. Just recently the G-Shock 35th Anniversary “D” Collection was released: Frogman GF-8235D, DW-5035D, DW-5735D.

But today we will not talk about her. A very interesting re-release of those very first G-Shocks was presented, but in an unusual design and using more advanced hardware. And so, meet the all-steel (almost) G-Shock GMW-B5000D-1 and GMW-B5000TFG-9.

The 5000th series is one of the most popular from Casio. Quite compact and comfortable watches, not lacking in functionality, have many fans. However, sometimes you can hear a derogatory epithet in their direction “ plastic toy" Probably, these people have not heard about the domestic Japanese classic GW-5000, which has a steel case with DLC coating hidden under an applied, unfortunately for some, plastic welt.

The idea of a steel “Shock” is not new, from recent ones you can remember the whole G-Steel series or the expensive MTG-MRG, but these were pointer or mixed analog-digital versions. Actually, after the “five thousand meters”, making them in steel is a completely logical and expected move. Fans of the brand have been asking for this for a very long time.

The case size of the new item is 49.3 x 43.2 x 13 mm, weight 167 grams with bracelet. There is a shock-absorbing spacer between the body and the outer steel frame to absorb shock.

The bracelet has a non-standard connection to the case; it is secured with a pin and bolts. Those wishing to install a NATO or other strap will again be forced to look for adapters. Although, I think the bracelet suits this watch perfectly. The glass, contrary to rumors and expectations, is mineral. Water resistance is 200 meters. The back cover is screw-on steel, with DLC coating.

The version with catalog number GMW-B5000D-1JF comes in steel and will be a production model, while the GMW-B5000TFG-9JR with gold ion plating is a limited edition release for the 35th anniversary of G-Shock. It comes with special packaging.

The Japanese price for the steel GMW-B5000D-1JF is ¥60,000 JPY (approximately $560 USD), and the gold limit GMW-B5000TFG-9JR costs ¥70,000 JPY ($660 USD). This is a fairly high price for this line, which, however, is somewhat offset by decent functionality.

There are the usual timer, stopwatch, perpetual calendar, daily alarms, time in different time zones, etc. The watch is recharged from a “Tough Solar” solar battery (in complete darkness, the battery charge will last up to 10 months during active use, up to 22 months in sleep mode), and supports Multiband 6 radio synchronization technology (time correction via radio signal). A very nice feature is that, unlike other models in the series, the day of the week can be presented in six languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Russian. GMW-B5000 supports Bluetooth V4.1 technology.

Thanks to the downloadable app, you can use your smartphone to set clocks, such as alarms, time zone, synchronize exact time in one of 300 cities in the world. This can be done automatically using the built-in GPS of your smartphone. Reminder for up to 5 pre-recorded dates and events. Phone search function. However, the most important thing, notifications about incoming calls and messages, unfortunately, are not available. We are waiting for the 45th anniversary))

Another nice feature is the use of an STN (super-twisted nematic) LCD screen. This is a technology based on the principle of a passive matrix consisting of LCD elements with varying transparency. Twisted Nematic literally means “twisted crystals” in English, here nematic is a type of liquid crystal used in an LCD display (the molecules of such a crystal are organized only in orientation, but not in positional order). The use of STN technology allows for improved image contrast and increased viewing angles. It is the small viewing angles of the previous generation screens that are perhaps one of the most annoying drawbacks of electronic G-Shocks. On my 5610, I constantly have to turn my hand to see the current time, and not something that looks like 88:88. Casio has previously installed STN screens in some Pro-Trek models.

There is a decorative pattern around the display - an image of “bricks”. This probably symbolizes continuity and homage to the very first G-Shock model.

By the way, the backlight is not the already familiar, and beloved by many, green electroluminescent, but Super Illuminator LED light, with an afterglow.

G-Shock lovers really got it interesting model, in a steel case, which we have been dreaming about for quite some time. Obviously, the rather high price will not stop them from purchasing this watch. I would like to believe that we will be able to see this module (electronic components with a display) in more mass-produced, popular models.
